Description
The 2025 Starboard Inflatable 7’9″ Wingboard Learner is an entry-level inflatable board designed as a crossover for people learning wingsurfing, windsurfing, or simply wanting a paddleboard with extra functionality. It’s essentially a “starter” model that lets you explore multiple water sports without needing separate boards. It comes in the size 7′9″ × 31″, built with Starboard’s Deluxe Lite inflatable construction.
Key Features & Capabilities
-
3-in-1 Crossover Board:
It serves three functions:-
Wingsurfing: The board includes a center fin plus forward side fins to help with control and lateral drift.
-
Windsurfing: It has a mast base and is compatible with side fins to help sailing upwind. It’s aimed at lighter-weight riders in this mode (up to ~80 kg).
-
SUP (Stand-Up Paddleboarding): When there’s no wind or when you just want to paddle, you can use it as a regular inflatable paddleboard.
-
-
Deluxe Lite Construction:
This is Starboard’s lighter, more performance-oriented inflatable build. It uses woven drop-stitch material to reduce weight, increase stiffness, and generally make the board more responsive. -
Wide Nose & Tail:
To increase initial stability (important for beginners), the nose and tail are fairly wide. That helps with balance when you’re learning to stand, or dealing with side forces (from wing or sail). -
Removable Center Fin Boxes:
The board includes two center fin boxes (or inserts) that can be added or removed depending on how you want to use the board. When included, they help with tracking (i.e. keeping straight) and upwind control under sail or wing. Removed, they reduce drag and simplify SUP paddling. -
Removable Mast Track or Base:
It has a mast base/track that can be removed—when you want a flat deck for SUP mode, or when wind isn’t available. -
Soft Carry Handles:
Soft EVA/neoprene or similar handles at the nose, tail, and often one on the underside or middle make it easier to carry, transport, launch, etc. -
Edge Release / 3D Rail Edge:
There’s a shaped rail design (3D rail edge release) that helps the water peel off more cleanly, improving glide, reducing drag, and helping with speed and maneuverability. -
Welded Rail Technology:
The board’s seams (rails) are welded rather than just glued. This improves durability, reduces the chance of leaks, and typically makes inflatable boards last longer in the rails. -
Included Accessories:
The board typically includes a lightweight leash (around 70g), a pump (Tiki pump, dual/nozzle to work with board and wing), and a travel-friendly bag (wheelie style or large rolling carry bag). - The Starboard Wingboard Learner Inflatable 7′9″ × 31″ (Deluxe Lite) is a versatile, beginner-friendly board built to explore wingsurfing, windsurfing, and SUP without needing separate specialized boards. It balances stability (wide nose/tail, high volume) with a lightweight and somewhat efficient design (removable fins, drop-stitch stiffness, ability to remove mast base). While not a high-performance foil board, it’s excellent for learning, practicing, and getting a feel for multiple sports in one package.
